Historical foundations of electrical engineering
Abstract: This lecture covers the history of electrophysics. Starting from early Chinese, Mediterranian, and Greek history of first observations of electrical and magnetic phenomena, the developments towards understanding of electromagnetics up to the days of the birth of radio waves will be discussed. Important points, events, and discoveries in the history are centered around the works of, for example, William Gilbert (1544–1603), Charles-°©‐Augustin Coulomb (1736–1806), Luigi Aloisio Galvani (1737–1798), Alessandro Volta (1745–1827), Hans Christian Örsted (1777–1851), André-ˇ‐Marie Ampère (1775–1836), Georg Simon Ohm (1789–1854), Michael Faraday (1791–1867), James Clerk Maxwell (1831–1879), etc. The timeline will be connected to engineering applications and crucial events in the social and economic history of the world.

Metamaterials and composites: electromagnetic description and unexpected effects
Abstract: In the analysis of electromagnetic fields interacting with material structures, the response of medium is condensed in dielectric and magnetic material parameters, like permittivity, conductivity, and permeability. In complicated and anisotropic media, these material parameters may need to be generalized from scalar quantities into matrices, or equivalently dyadics. The complicated response of materials is very often of structural origin, in other words the manner in which a heterogeneous mixture is formed determines its macroscopic electromagnetic material parameters. This lecture deals with the variety of ways how one is able to characterize and effectively describe the macroscopic dielectric and magnetic behavior of composite materials with given properties of the constituents and the geometrical microstructure. Homogenization principles will be applied to analyze and understand mixtures that display very interesting properties that differ strongly from these of the constituent materials. This is the domain of metamaterials, and the talk will shed light into this new paradigm in electromagnetics.

Laboratori aperti con la presentazione di esperimenti scientifici e la possibilità di interagire con docenti e studenti.

Il programma Erasmus+ offre a studenti di tutte le Facoltà numerose opportunità per andare all’estero, in Europa e fuori dall’Europa. Con la nuova edizione del programma è ancora più facile partire e la mobilità per studio e/o tirocinio può durare fino a 12 mesi per ciclo di studio (24 mesi per il ciclo unico).
Nel corso dell’evento verrà illustrato il funzionamento del programma, verranno presentati i diversi bandi in uscita e tutte le risorse Erasmus disponibili sul web. Alla fine delle presentazioni verrà dato spazio alle testimonianze e alle domande degli studenti.
Per partecipare è necessario compilare il modulo di registrazione.

L‘Area per L’internazionalizzazione presenterà il programma Erasmus Mundus (America Latina, Balcani, Africa del Nord, Asia Occidentale), illustrando i bandi aperti e le modalità di partecipazione. Saranno quindi presentate le risorse web e social di Sapienza, per restare sempre aggiornati sulle numerosissime opportunità internazionali dell’Ateneo.
All’evento parteciperanno inoltre il DAAD, che presenterà le opportunità di studio e ricerca in Germania, la Commissione Fulbright, che offre borse di studio, ricerca e tirocinio per gli Stati Uniti e Campus France, che illustrerà i programmi rivolti a chi è interessato a un’esperienza di studio o ricerca in Francia.
